Compsognathus longipes seeks for food on the forest floor, while potential prey observes her.
During the Late Jurassic period, Europe consisted of several islands, and where bigger meateaters were not around, tiny Compsognathus might have actually been the top predator!
Fossils of a "compy" were found with a skeleton of Bavarisaurus (small lizard) inside abdominal cavity. It`s possible that Compsognathus actually died in this, maybe suffocated while eating too big meal. This tells us that Compsognathus preyed on small animals.
